According to sources, the wages will be hiked from the existing Rs 70 to Rs 180 for skilled inmates, while Rs 50 to Rs 120 for semi-skilled inmates. Similarly, wages of the unskilled inmates will be hiked to Rs 80 from Rs 30. 

Nalgonda: The Jails department is planning to hike the daily wages of inmates for their work. In this regard, the higher officials of the department sought a report from the Nalgonda District jail authorities on the details of inmates.

According to sources, the wages will be hiked from the existing Rs 70 to Rs 180 for skilled inmates, while Rs 50 to Rs 120 for semi-skilled inmates. Similarly, wages of the unskilled inmates will be hiked to Rs 80 from Rs 30.

Speaking to The Hans India, Superintendent of the district jail Dr Srinivas informed that out of 192 inmates in the jail, 42 were convicted inmates. Among the 42 convicted persons, 18 were skilled, six were semi-skilled and 18 inmates were unskilled. The inmates were employed in kitchen, establishment, note book preparation and other works.

Reminding that 11 convicted prisoners were also working in My Nation Petrol Bunk run by the Jail, he informed that they have also prepared a proposal to increase their daily wages from Rs 100 to Rs 250 as they were working 12 hours in a day.

He informed that half of the amount earned by the convicted prisoners would be deposited in their bank accounts and would have the facility of draw it they were released from the jail. The remaining half of the amount would be with the jail officials and the convicted prisoners have the provision to extend the amount to his family members when they come for Mulakath, he added.

He felt that when a released prisoner had good amount in his hands after releasing from the jail, he would have some time to search for work without financial problem.
