Karimnagar: About 30 per cent of the children under 16 years of age were found anaemic at a free anaemia health check-up camp held here on Sunday.

Dr B N Rao health foundation has organised the camp at Social Welfare Girls Hostel in Subhash Nagar here.

More than 200 children were screened at the camp and 65 were diagnosed as suffering with anaemia.

Inaugurating the camp, MP Boinapalli Vinod Kumar expressed concern that anaemia can become a serious problem if ignored and a lot of high school and college girls along with pregnant women were suffering from the problem.

Appreciating the doctors’ efforts, the MP said that it was good to know that some of the doctors in the city came forward to adopt four villages - Nukalpalli, Manala, Maddunur and Chinna Malkanur and conduct free anaemia health check-up with the association of Dr B N Rao Health foundation.

The Director of the Foundation, Dr B N Rao said that anaemia, if not diagnosed and treated early, could even lead to heart failure. It could also result in reduced vision, psychological changes and make the children dull and inactive, he added.

‘Free medicines and diet would be provided to the children, who are suffering with anaemia for three months on behalf of our foundation by visiting the hostel once in every week,’ he explained.

MLC Naradau Lakshman Rao, MLA Gangula Kamalakar Rao, Dr Venkat Reddy, Dr Aleem, Dr Jhansi, Dr Sunitha, Dr Pavan, Dr Bhumi Reddy, Dr Madhusudhan, Dr Rekha Rao, Dr Narayana and Dr Venkateshwarlu were present along with hostel warden.
