Khammam: The wait is over for the denizens of Khammam with the State government constituting Stambhadri Urban Development Authority (SUDA) encompassing 45 villages and Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC).

Although, it has been on the cards for some time, the government on Tuesday finally issued a notification, thus invoking the requirement of preparing a master plan with its ambit spread across seven mandals of the district.

The development comes close on the heels of work on establishing an IT Park in Khammam got underway recently.

The locals believe that SUDA will do a world of good to Khammam that lost a host of industries such as Singareni Collieries, ITC Bhadrachalam, Navabharat Ferro Alloys, KTPS, NMDC etc. following the creation of Bhadradri-Kothagudem district.

It may be noted here that there has been despair in the people since the split of the district that took sheen away from Khammam. Now with the constitution of SUDA, no less a radius of around 35 km is set to get a major facelift with the funds for infrastructure flowing in from the State and the Central government.

Most importantly, the development is likely to help the realty sector that plunged into crisis in 2014. Speaking to The Hans India, Khammam MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar said: “The SUDA with its master plan, enforcing zonal regulations and integrated planning, will change the face of villages spread across seven mandals and the KMC bringing all round development.” The proposed outer ring road (ORR) is also an added advantage to the city’s development.

While the district collector and the municipal commissioner are the chairman and vice-chairman of the SUDA respectively, the local MLA, director of municipal administration, principal secretary of finance department and director of town and country planning, Hyderabad are other members.
