Mancherial: International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), with the help of District Collector RV Karnan, launched distribution of nutritious food to Anganwadi Kendras at Kasipeta, Chinna Dharmaram and Regulagudem. Director-General of the ICRISAT David Bergvinson got four nutritious food products prepared using jowar, foxtail millets, ragi and other pulses and will be supplied to the Anganwadi Kendras for about nine months to check maternal and infant mortality rates in Agency areas of undivided Adilabad district.

Three months ago, blood samples of 4,000 expectant mothers and children were collected. The changes in blood after providing the nutritious food supplements will be recorded. The project was launched as many tribal girls died because of malnutrition. The objective is to increase the haemoglobin level in their blood. The project was launched on an experimental basis in Utnoor, Tiryani and Kasipet mandals.
