Kothagudem: Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu asserted here on Friday that no statues should be installed in the district, as the Supreme Court in its verdict explicitly denounced the practice. In a notification issued here, the Collector stated that following a plea by the Transport and Roads and Buildings department (Roads-I) dated February 18, the court issued the order (IA no.10 of 2012 in SLP No.8519 of 2006 dated 18-1-2013) denying permission for installing statues.
The Collector’s announcement comes in the wake of the plea by Koneru Satyanarayana, son of former Minister Koneru Nageswar Rao, to install the statue of his late father in Srinagar Colony next to that of former Chief Minister N T Rama Rao.
