Khammam: As part of the call given by the State Municipal Workers Association, the Khammam municipal Workers along with the workers from various organisations, took out a half-naked procession here on Thursday. The municipal workers boycotted their duties here in protest against the government refusing to enhance their salaries as promised earlier.

Speaking on the occasion, district leader of the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Tumma Vishnuvardhan alleged that Minister for Municipal Administration K T Rama Rao had gone back on his promise to enhance the salaries of the municipal workers. The government hiked the salaries of municipal workers of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to get their votes in the elections held for GHMC council. The government had ignored the plight of the workers in other municipalities, he said.

Though the government had issued GO 14 after the workers waged struggle, it failed to implement it. Moreover, the government is trying to hire workers from outside by paying extra money to them against to the municipal workers, he pointed and warned the government to stop hiring workers from outside.

He demanded that the government implement the GO immediately and increase the salaries of municipal workers. He threatened to intensify the agitation if the government failed to redress the grievances of the workers.

The CITU leaders Y Srinivas Rao G Srinu B Padma, Prasad, D Narasimha Rao, IFTU leaders Viplav Kumar, T Ramulu, Guruvaiah, Narayana INTUC leaders Md. Pasha, T Krishna, Jayaraju AITUC leaders M Venkateshwarlu and T Krishna were present along with Municipal workers.
