Suryapet: A section of farmers went on the rampage at the Suryapet Agriculture Market Yard and damaged the furniture in the office on Friday. It was a sequel to the traders allegedly failing to pay minimum support price to paddy.
The farmers staged a protest demonstration on NH 65 on Thursday night and called off the agitation on the assurance of Joint Collector Sanjeeva Reddy that the administration would ensure that minimum support price was paid to their produce.
But traders on Friday continued to refuse to pay minimum support price to the paddy. The farmers barged into the office of the Market Yard and damaged the furniture in the chambers of Chairman and Secretary.
Later, the farmers staged road blockade protest on NH-65 near the Market Yard and vowed to continue to stage protests till the District Collector intervened and set the things right. District Collector Surendra Mohan rushed to the spot and interacted with the farmers. The farmers on the assurance of the Collector withdrew the agitation.
