Bibinagar (Yadadri- Bhongir): Two minor girls, who were about to be married off, have been rescued in Yadadri district, according to police on Thursday.

Following information that the girls aged 15 and 16 were to be married off, 'SHE Teams' a wing of the State police, and the officials of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) stopped the weddings in Bibi Nagar and Pochampally mandals and counselled the parents of the girls and the bridegrooms, the officials said.

The 15-year-old was to get married to a 26-year-old man on Wednesday, while the 16-year-old was to get married to a 22-year-old on Thursday morning, but the plans were thwarted.

The police and ICDS officials issued a warning to the priests, wedding card printers, elders and supporters of child marriage of stringent punishment.

Sub-Inspector of Police Rama Krishna Reddy, SHE Team Assistant Sub-Inspector Krishnaiah, ICDS supervisor Vijaya, VRO Vijaya Laxmi and a officials formed into a team and stopped the child marriages.
