Vijayawada: City Police Commissioner B Srinivasulu here on Thursday emphasised the need for public cooperation for the administration and the police department to help serve people better. The police department has celebrated the 67th Independence Day at Parade Grounds in the city. City Police Commissioner hoisted the national flag.

Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner underlined the need for peace and harmony for steady development of the nation. “The public has the responsibility to inform and keep in touch with police. They should act as the watch dogs of the society,” he said.


“Required action is being taken on the complaints lodged by public against fraudulent financial organisations that cheat people. We request the people to think twice before investing in any such institutions,” he said.The Commissioner said the police department was successful in recovering gold, ornaments, electronic appliances and cash stolen in various burglaries and chain snatchings.


He warned of severe action against those found troublesome and has a history of indulging in illegal and anti-social activities. Many rowdy sheeters were identified and their activities closely monitored by the police, he said. He appreciated the work done by police in the recent village panchayat elections. Later, the Police Commissioner gave away merit certificates to Circle Inspectors, Sub Inspectors, Head Constables and constables.


Students of various schools in the city participated in cultural programmes at the venue.
