Rajahmundry: Students in Rajahmundry came out of their blocks on Wednesday, giving a major boost to the Samikyandhra agitation. The youth pledged that they would not accept any alternative to Samaikyandhra. Inspirational songs by prominent Telugu Ghajal singer Srinivas bolstered the morale of the agitators. Employees, teachers, workers, farmers, students and people from all sections, irrespective of class and creed, who sent a sound message to the Congress High Command, made it clear that there would be no future for the leaders who did not come out in support of Samaikyandhra. More than 10,000 students from all the schools and colleges from the city took out a rally and laid siege to National Highway-16.
In a colourful and inspirational show, students, under the aegis of Non-Political Joint Action Committee (JAC), congregated at the historical Government Arts College in Rajahmundry on Wednesday morning, staged a protest. They said they would not sit idle while the State was being bifurcated, but agitate until the Centre revokes its decision. Students from colleges and schools arrived at the Arts College grounds after forming human chains at various junctions in the city. After reaching the venue, the students demonstrated how Telangana leaders were filling the air with hatred against Seemandhra people through cultural programmes.
Ghazal Srinivas, who was the chief guest at this congregation, sang touching songs like ‘Hyderabad Mee Abba Sotthu Kadu... Maa Tata Sotthu’ and ‘Kalisunte Kanakadhara Kurustundani Chuputham... Telugu Jati Mummatiki Okkatenani Chebudam’. Students joined chorus with Mr Srinivas and questioned the Congress High Command whether it was possible to divide the country into 1,400 States if slang was the main reason for bifurcation.
Rajahmundry city MLA Routhu Suryaprakasa Rao could not refrain from performing a couple of steps when Mr Srinivas sang ‘Oyee Teluguvada’. The students danced ecstatically as Mr Srinivas sang. They took out a huge rally raising slogans in support of Samaikyandhra. The rally, which began at the Arts College grounds, reached Lala Cheruvu where students laid siege to the National Highway. Vehicular traffic came to a complete halt as the rasta-roko continued for two hours. Traffic was held up to Vemagiri on Vijayawada side and up to Rajanagaram on the Visakhapatnam side. Large number of students, managements of educational institutes, APNGOs, advocates, doctors, traders, representatives of Chamber of Commerce and political leaders, cutting across party lines, took part in the programme.
