Two separate encounters broke out between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam and Pulwama districts on Tuesday, police said. In the first incident reported, a jawan of Rashtriya Rifles died in action, while two jawans of 163 Bn CRPF injured. Two terrorists neutralised, their identities and affiliations are being ascertained. In the second incident, a terrorist was killed, local police said.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Redwani area of Kulgam district around midnight, a police official said.

The operation was launched after receiving information about the presence of terrorists in the area, he said.

Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from site of encounter. Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter," police said in a statement.

The area was cordoned off by security forces Tuesday morning after receiving intelligence input about the presence of terrorists there, he said.

Firing was going on when last reports came in, the official said, adding further details were awaited.
