Bangalore: As the exams of the pre-university (II PU) or Class 12 students, are all set and lined up. They seem to be having no time for anything else, other than burying themselves in books. It is also the time when the stress among students takes a hike, with a toll on their health.

On the 9th, 10th and 11th of January, the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE-Mains) is scheduled. Which are followed by 18 competitive exams which will be running up to the month of April-May, which makes it a stressful period for Class 12 students.

Experts say this is one of the most “irrational and ridiculous exam marathon” students have go through to just catch a ‘hot-seat’ in a college or a university. Speaking about these marathon examination sessions, G Sridhar, the founder and managing director at the group of Deeksha institute had told the BM, “After the emergence of deemed universities, entrance examinations have opened up for all. This was not the scenario four years ago. We had JEE, CET and COMEDK exams where students used to write these along with their board exams.”

Sridhar added by saying, “Students are confused, overburdened and not really sure where they have to concentrate. Choosing the dream exam will help students to focus and prepare for the same along with their board exams. This will allow students to streamline and reduce their anxiety level. Later, students can solve the particular exam model papers extensively and be prepared to crack the toughest competitive exam for them.”

Other experts have also said that there should be another exam which is like the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) which are catered only for the purpose of medical exams.

Suryaprakash Jayaramu, the associate vice-president, of the BASE Educational Services said that, “In the race to get into premier institutions, many students often suffer from sleepless nights and depression due to fear of failure and disappointment. With the exam season nearby, students may be searching for ways to milk their year of hard work for every possible ounce of benefit. We believe that coping with exam pressure for the next 3-4 months at a stretch will be challenging for them.”
