Jaya unveils Pongal package
Jaya unveils Pongal package, Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa's Pongal package, Free saree-dhoti scheme. She also announced Pongal bonus for government employees, teachers and pensioners, which entail a total burden of Rs 308.28 crore on the exchequer.
Chennai : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday launched a series of government initiatives, including a Pongal package and free saree-dhoti scheme besides other projects at Coonoor in the hill district of Nilgiris,
The Pongal package contains one kg of rice and sugar to make the sweet delicacy by the same name during the harvest festival, besides Rs 100 in cash. Jayalalithaa said she had earmarked Rs 281 crore for it despite the State's “economic burden.”
She also announced Pongal bonus for government employees, teachers and pensioners, which entail a total burden of Rs 308.28 crore on the exchequer.
Employees and teachers under the categories of ‘C’ and ‘D’ will receive a bonus worth 30 days salary. However, a ceiling has been placed on the bonus at Rs 3,000. For other categories, the bonus will be Rs 1,000 each. Also, Rs 500 will be paid each to pensioners, family pensioners and retired village officers.
