Daughter Sold for 50k, Mother Held. On Monday evening, the crime branch of the Parbhani police has arrested a woman who was attempting to sell her 14 year old daughter to three men from Haryana for Rs 50,000.
Aurangabad: On Monday evening, the crime branch of the Parbhani police has arrested a woman who was attempting to sell her 14 year old daughter to three men from Haryana for Rs 50,000. The three men, including a father-son duo, and the girl's neighbour, who tried to mediate the deal, have also been arrested. The victim is the eldest of six siblings and is reportedly a school failure. The family resides in the Shankarnagar area of Parbhani. Her father is a painter while her mother, the accused Chhayabai Kandhare (40), collects and sells scrap.
According to the sources, Chhayabai would be offered Rs 50,000 for getting her daughter married off to Ashu Kamalsingh (18), one of the three men. The deal was finalised at Jayabai's house and Chhayabai agreed to take the girl to Nashik, from where she would be handed over to the men. Nevertheless, both the girl and her father opposed the deal. With help from her father, the girl approached the Parbhani superintendent of police's office on Monday evening. The police laid a trap soon thereafter and arrested Chhayabai, Jayabai, Ashu, Ashu's father Bhagwansingh (45) and Noman Khan Mohammed Khan (35). Parbhani superintendent of police Sandeep Patil said that Muglikar headed the team which nabbed all five accused.
