Hyderabad: The Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has informed the State Government that it was launching a new initiative wherein in consumers would be asked to voluntarily give up LPG subsidy to help the needy persons. “Though India is progressing rapidly, still 36 per cent of homes in the country are dependent on dirty fossil fuels.

Women and children in these homes are subjected to a high level of indoor pollution due to their dependence on such polluting fuels resulting in poor quality of life and illnesses; Though it is desirable to provide subsidy to the needy, a part of our population can afford to buy domestic LPG at the market price and can afford to give up subsidy,” says a press release from the Telangana’s Commissioner Civil Supplies. In monetary terms, on the maximum cap of 12 cylinders, subsidy being incurred is around Rs 6000 per annum.
