CBI raids ministries, private firms
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday carried out raids at the offices of various ministries and private firms, reportedly recovering cash worth Rs 60 lakh in the operations. The agency also registered a case to probe the leakage of sensitive documents from various Union ministries.

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday carried out raids at the offices of various ministries and private firms, reportedly recovering cash worth Rs 60 lakh in the operations. The agency also registered a case to probe the leakage of sensitive documents from various Union ministries. The raids were conducted in six places in Delhi and Mumbai to investigate the alleged sale of information by government officials.
The CBI's probe into the case is separate from the one being conducted by the Delhi police, a report quoted an agency source as saying. The Delhi police earlier in February arrested two government employees as the probe widened in the corporate espionage case. The crime branch arrested the two men employed with the environment ministry and the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), who allegedly stole sensitive documents from offices of the oil, coal and power ministries.
Police have, so far, arrested 16 people from two modules and registered two FIRs in connection with the leak of classified documents from several ministries. Investigators said at least seven more people, already identified, will be arrested soon.Two energy consultants, Santanu Saikia and Prayas Jain, as well as five senior executives from top energy firms RIL, Essar, Cairn India and ADAG Reliance have also been arrested in the case. Virender Kumar, a Defence Ministry staff member, was also arrested for allegedly stealing an identity card of an auditor at Indian Defence Accounts Service and providing the same to one of the accused, Lalta Prasad, in the case.
