New Delhi: ‘Saddula Bathu kamma’, the grand finale of the Bathukamma festival was celebrated with much enthusiasm and gaiety at Telangana Bhavan here on Tuesday. This was the first time that Saddula Bathukamma came to the national capital, thanks to the formation of separate Telangana State.

The attempts of the State government to promote and popularise Bathukamma as a national festival succeeded to a large extent with tremendous interest being generated in the same due to the efforts of Telangana Jagruthi and the Department of Tourism, Telangana State.

Telangana students of various institutions in and around the National Capital Region (NCR) thronged the venue to take part in the festivities. North Indians who witnessed the traditional celebrations were seen asking people of Telangana origin the meaning and the purpose of the festival.

On Tuesday, as the Telangana Bhavan reverberated to the scintillating “Bathukamma, Bathukamma Uyyalo” songs, several North Indian women joined their Telangana counterparts in dancing to tune of traditional Bathukamma songs.

The Bhavan reverberated not only to the tunes of Bathukamma but also to the slogans of ‘Jai Telangana’. The Bhavan was decorated with flowers and special lighting arrangements were made on the occasion that brought hundreds of visitors flocking there in the evening.
