Dujana had escaped several such operations in the past.
Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Abu Dujana, who was killed in an encounter on Tuesday, had refused to surrender, according to a phone call conversation between him and an Army officer.
Dujana, before being shot dead by security forces, had a nine-minute conversation with an officer, NDTV reported.
"Kabhi hum aage aap peechhe, kabhi aap aage hum peechhe, aaj aapne pakad liya, mubarak ho aapko (sometimes I am ahead, sometimes you are ahead. Today you have caught me, congratulations)," Dujana is heard telling the officer minutes before he was gunned down.
Dujana, visiting one of his many women friends in the village was tracked by policemen, who then alerted security forces. Following a gunbattle on Tuesday, the forces blew up the house, the report added.
The officers asked a local to dial Dujana before taking over the call and to the situation's surprise they were greeted with "How are you?" by him.
To which the officer responded, "Forget how I am...Why aren't you surrendering?...You know how bad it is now...Everything is a game...Think about your parents."
Dujana then says, "My ma-baap (parents) died the day I left them."
Promising him help, the officer urged Dujana to surrender and said, "But you are not dead to them. You surrender, I will help you."
He presses on: "Unless you come out and explain to people, there will be blood-letting. Who will persuade these people? Unless you speak up, Kashmiris will keep getting killed..."
"I didn't start the bloodshed...I know the whole game," the terrorist returns. This is not Jihad, urged the officer.
Unmoved and cold to the officer's counsel, Dujana disconnects the line, saying, "Achha theek hai yaar (ok then)."
On June 1, the Army released a list of top 12 militants active mainly in Jammu and Kashmir's southern districts, falling in two categories of ‘A’ and ‘A++’ and belonging to the Hizb-ul-Mujahedin (HM), (LeT) and Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM). Abu Dujana, alias Hafiz (LeT Divisional Commander, South Kashmir), was listed under the A++ category and the Army had also said that he is based out of Pakistan and has been active since December 14, 2014. It had also said that getting these militants dead or alive is the top priority of the Army.
Dujana had escaped several such operations in the past.
