New Delhi: Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh tweeted a video of an accident victim lying on a road, claiming that his death reflected the "insensitivity" of the Delhi Police and passers-by, but the charge was refuted by the police which said the man was taken to a hospital in time.

The Rajya Sabha MP shared the video on Friday, showing the severely injured man lying on the road, writhing in pain, with some people and police personnel standing nearby.

"Akash...died in extreme pain, while the police and passers-by did nothing. This sad and painful incident reflects the insensitivity of the Delhi Police and passers-by," Singh tweeted in Hindi, along with the video.

The police said the incident occurred on July 11 and the man was taken to the hospital by the police in time.

The video was shot after the man was rescued by the police from under the wheels of a car, they said. According to a senior police officer, the man was hit by the car on the Feroz Shah Road and Kasturba Gandhi intersection and he was dragged for a few metres by the vehicle.

A police picket, that was placed on the Feroz Shah Road, stopped the car by placing barricades. The driver was detained, and the victim was pulled out from under the wheels of the car, the officer said.

The police personnel took him to RML Hospital in the same vehicle that had hit him. "The video was shot in the few seconds when he was rescued and laid down on the road," he said.

He succumbed to injuries on July 12 around noon, he added. The police said that the incident occurred around 9.15 pm and the accused driver was nabbed by 9.30 pm. He was taken to RML Hospital by 9.40 pm and his medical examination done, he added.
