New Delhi: The Ministry of Minority Affairs organised a 'Mushaira' based on Mahatma Gandhi's teachings and principles here on Saturday.

The event, which commemorated the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, was held at Dr Ambedkar International Centre.

The mushaira witnessed eminent Urdu poets including the likes of Wasim Barelvi, Haseeb Soz, Aizaz Popular Marethi and Surendra Singh Shajar, among others who enthralled the audience and spread message of peace, humanity and unity through their poetic verses.

"While on one hand these programmes will spread the message and principles of Mahatma Gandhi, on the other hand they will also strengthen social harmony and brotherhood in the society," Minister of Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, who inaugurated the event, said.

Eminent people from the field of politics, arts were in attendance to hear the performing poets.

Mushairas on the same line will also be organised in other cities Mumbai, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Ranchi.
