Late Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy, the two times Chief Minister of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh died in tragic air crash on the same day in 2009. On September 2, 2009, a helicopter carrying YSR went missing in the Nallamala forest area.

The next morning media reported that the helicopter wreckage had been found on top of Rudrakonda Hill, approximately 75km away from Kurnool. The five people aboard were enunciated dead at the scene of the crash.

Late YS Rajasekhara Reddy was popular among the poor people with the implementation of many schemes, close to the heart of the general public. On the first day of his tenure in 2004, he provided free electricity for farmers, a campaign project. Later, A health insurance program for rural people living below the poverty line (white card holders), known as Rajiv Arogya Shree, was instituted to pay the entire cost of any necessary surgery up to a maximum of Rs.200,000.

This scheme was most popular among the masses and many people below the poverty line have got benefitted with this scheme. Many such schemes elevated the position of YSR and got him success once again in 2009 general elections.

Late YSR has been accused of amassing large amounts of money during his tenure as the Chief Minister. He is said to have used the populist schemes like Irrigation projects and housing schemes to his advantage and earn huge profits through them.

In a leaked United States diplomatic cable, the American Consul General also quoted that there was widespread corruption that was beyond the pale even for India, hinting the corruption that went during YSR’s regime.

Whatsoever the case may be, late YS Rajasekahra Reddy has implemented many schemes which are popular among masses even now. The great leader of masses remembered on his 5th death anniversary.
