Two injured as gas tanker overturns

Rajahmundry: A major mishap was averted when a tanker carrying gas overturned near Burugupudi gate of Korukonda mandal in East Godavari district on Thursday. A The tanker, which was proceeding towards HP gas plant at Veeralanka Palli in East Godavari district, from Vizag overturned near Dosakayala Palli gate in the wee hours of Thursday after hitting a tree.

People in the surrounding areas panicked as gas was slowly leaking from the tanker. The officials responded quickly and controlled the gas leak with sand and mud. The traffic police regulated the traffic. The officials stopped the power supply and controlled the usage of mobile phones in that area.

The HP plant officials have made arrangements to empty the tanker and shifted it to a safe place. The driver and the cleaner of the tanker, who were injured in the accident, have been shifted to the Rajahmundry government hospital. However, the people had to suffer due to traffic regulations in the busy morning hours. Traffic was stranded for a kilometre on Korukonda-Rajahmundry road and Korukonda-Rajanagaram road.

However, the officials relaxed the traffic regulations for the students who are appearing for Class 10 and Intermediate examinations.
