fire2 Puttaparhti Town: Property worth Rs 10 lakh was destroyed in a fire mishap in Puttaparthi town on Monday. A major fire broke out in the Sai Sundaram Warehouse near 3rd cross road at Gopuram Road at 12 noon due to power short circuit. The warehouse belongs to Bhawarlal of Rajasthan. Valuable clothes and important articles were reduced to ashes in the fire that broke out during the afternoon. On seeing smoke coming out of the warehouse, alarmed residents of the locality alerted the police and the fire stations. Along with fire tenders, DSP Venkataiah and CI Sridhar rushed to the spot. With the help of three fire tenders, the fire personnel tried to stop the fire, but the flames spread quickly and engulfed clothes stored there. The fire department staff averted major blasts by bringing out the two gas cylinders inside the warehouse. Bhawarlal lamented that he incurred loss as he had not done accident insurance to the warehouse. A People said that the situation would have been worse if the fire brigade, the police and the people had not acted with alacrity to prevent the spread of the fire in the surrounding areas.
