Awadhe Warriors brother-sister pair of Markis Kido and Pia Bernadeth won the crucial fifth match and the tie 3-2 against Mumbai Masters in the second semi-final of the Indian Badminton League at Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium on Thursday.

Bangalore: Awadhe Warriors brother-sister pair of Markis Kido and Pia Bernadeth won the crucial fifth match and the tie 3-2 against Mumbai Masters in the second semi-final of the Indian Badminton League at Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium on Thursday.

Earlier, rising sensation P V Sindhu outclassed All England champion Tine Baun in straight games as Awadhe Warriors were level at 2-2 Mumbai Masters in the semifinals of the Vodafone Indian Badminton League (IBL). World No 10 and Icon player for Awadhe warriors, Sindhu gave flawless performance as she defeated veteran Baun 21-16, 21-13 to level proceedings after world No 1 Lee Chong Wei drew first blood for Mumbai outfit, thrashing talented Guru Sai Dutt 21-15, 21-7.

In the men's doubles encounter, the formidable Warriors' pair Markis Kido and Mathias Boe made short work of the inexperienced Indian duo of Sumeeth Reddy and Pranav Jerry Chopra with a score line of 21-15, 21-10. The fourth match started off to a great contest between Vladimir Ivanov and K Srikanth as the Russian won the first game 21-10 in what was a superb display of badminton by both the players. He settled the issue with a 21-19 verdict in the second game.
The deciding mixed doubles’ first game was tied 18-18 at one stage after which Awadhe Warriors won two consecutive points and got two game points. Ivanov saved the first game point with a cross court smash but Markis Kido delivered a perfect down the line smash to seal the first game for Awadhe Warriors, which will lock horns with Hyderabad Hotshots in the final at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.
