Hyderabad: It was a grand double for Abhaya Vemuri, after she and Siva Kaushik, both from Telangana State, emerged as the girls and boys champions in the AITA Under-16 Girls & Boys Championship Series (three-day) here on Thursday.
Abhaya had to muster her best form to outlast her Maharashtra opponent Harshali Mandavkar 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(6) in a gruelling title clash.
However, the boy’s final was one-sided with Kaushik whipping Brihat of Andhra Pradesh 6-4, 6-0.
In the all-TS girl's doubles final, Vemuri siblings Abhaya and Apurva defeated Malishka Kuramu and Aarni Reddy Yellu 5-3, 4-2 in a closely contested final.
Brihat and Yash Agarwal prevailed over Tharakesh and Aditya 4-2, 4-5(2), 7-2 in another tightly contested final.
