Andhra Pradesh: Mandar Divase, Puneet Rana, Vinay CH Krishna and Sajan Prakash clinched gold medals by showcasing splendid preformance in their respective events on the opening day of the 67th All-India Police Aquatic and Cross Country Championship, here on Tuesday.

The five-day event is hosted by the Department of Police at Aqua Sports Complex
Inaugurating the championship, Commissioner of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha, said: “It was the first time the event was held in Andhra Pradesh and that such platforms bring out the best among the teams which creates a common stage for them to improve networking skills.”

“Winning or losing the game does not matter but what really counts is the participation that promotes the spirit of sportsmanship among the contestants,” he added.

The day-long event included 800-metre free style (time trial basis), 100-metre breaststroke, 100-metre backstroke and 200-metre butterfly.

Apart from swimming, competitions like water polo and spring board diving will also be held in Grey hounds swimming pool, Eastern Naval Command and other venues for the next four days.

About 25 teams comprising over 560 contestants from various States have come to take part in the 67th edition that concludes on Saturday.

District Collector K. Bhaskar attended as chief guest. He was accompanied by GITAM chairman Sri Bharat, among other invitees. Inspector General of Police, A.P.S.P., K.V.V. Gopala Rao, DIG Battalions (Nodal Officer) G. Vijaya Kumar were also present. .

The top three winners on the inaugural day were honoured with gold, silver and bronze medals along with the certificates.

Day One Winners list Men 800 M free style: Mandar Divase (BSF, 9:01:16), B.M. Manu (CRPF, 9:16:51) and Manojit Hazra (BSF, 9:23:25).

Men 100 M breast stroke: Puneet Rana (Haryana Police, 1:05:60), Khashish Punia (Punjab Police, 1:09:28) and Ravinder Arya (Punjab Police, 1:10:59).

Men 100 M Back stroke: Vinay CH Krishna (BSF, 1:05:67), Rahul K. Krishnan (Kerala Police, 1:06:26) and Gursewak Singh (CRPF, 1:06:79)

Men 200 M butterfly: Sajan Prakash (Kerala Police, 2:01:01), Sandeep Phangal (BSF, 2:15:33) and K. Manoj (BSF, 2:20:14).
