Pacnet Enabled Network PEN Extends to Optical Layer. Pacnet, a leading provider of integrated technology solutions in the Asia-Pacific region, today announces the extension of its award-winning Pacnet Enabled Network (PEN) into the optical layer.
HONG KONG, CHINA - Media OutReach: Pacnet, a leading provider of integrated technology solutions in the Asia-Pacific region, today announces the extension of its award-winning Pacnet Enabled Network (PEN) into the optical layer. This allows Pacnet to provide on-demand provisioning of network services up to 100G including Network Function Virtualization (NFV) tools on the company's privately owned trans-Pacific and intra-Asia submarine network systems.
PEN is a Software-defined Networking (SDN) platform supporting on-demand bandwidth delivery via its customer portal or simple public application programming interface (API). With the new capability, Pacnet extends network virtualization to the subsea transport network, enabling high-speed capacity provisioning and automated fault restoration across its network systems. Together with its virtual appliances, PEN gives customers the power to orchestrate applications across multiple countries simultaneously, delivering cost-efficient virtualized network resources that customers can order and consume on demand.
"Pacnet continues to shape the adoption of SDN and NFV technologies through our continuous efforts to improve and enhance our fully-automated network provisioning platform, bringing the cloud experience to all layers of network," says Jim Fagan, President of Managed Services at Pacnet. "The journey from launching PEN 16 months ago to enhancing its capabilities with NFV and extending the service to the optical layer marks a significant milestone for the company and the industry. We committed to our customers that we would build an automated network platform that can be tailored to their specific needs and we are keeping that promise."
Pacnet's enhanced PEN platform also delivers automated connectivity to external private and public cloud providers. Customers can easily create their hybrid cloud deployment via an intuitive drag-and-drop function on the platform with greater control and flexibility when provisioning between their data center or network.
PEN gives customers an easy-to-use platform to automate flows, enable Direct Internet Access (DIA) and virtual appliances and to choose their preferred billing methods. PEN provides users with added flexibility and granularity, which is based on customer-determined network topology including design, bandwidth allocation, DIA endpoints and latency, while providing a complete range of performance characteristic options.
In addition, customers now benefit from enhanced endpoint parameters, which offer greater control when managing the PEN inventory by enabling the restriction of end-user bandwidth allocation and usage of endpoints. PEN user access is synchronized under individual customer IDs, providing additional administrative management capabilities of end-users within a specific group.
Key customer benefits at-a-glance:
- Dynamic bandwidth provisioning and throughput
- Flexible, pay-as-you-go deployment
- Simplified budgeting and billing based on network flow
- Simplified user interface allowing the group administrator to set the rights and authorities of each user
- Lower cost over public Internet connectivity with cloud providers (CP)
- Hybrid cloud environment: customers can seamlessly and dynamically map network usage to bandwidth-intensive workloads and applications
- Seamless creation of rapid flows between Pacnet endpoints and CP instances
