Hyderabad: In order to serve tangential areas including the international airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad and also to enlarge services, KCR, the Chief Minister of Telangana, on Friday wanted South Central Railway to hasten the works on the MMTS (Multi-Modal Transit System) Phase II.

He accentuated the need to upgrade railway infrastructure in and around the twin cities in tempo with the growth requirements and wanted new passenger terminals to be created at expedient locations to reduce overcrowding at Hyderabad, Kacheguda and Secunderabad. In this milieu, South Central Railway General Manager PK Srivastava called on the Chief Minister at the Secretariat to brief him on ongoing projects in Telangana and expansion plans in the State.

Reportedly, KCR had promised to give all necessary support when Srivastava sought Government’s assistance. It is learnt that KCR has assured him of support from Government of Telangana on land allocation and other clearances and advised the SCR to speed up works on road over-bridges and road under-bridges in the twin cities to ease road traffic congestion.

In addition, reviewing status of projects like the wagon manufacturing factory in Kazipet and new lines including Peddapalli-Nizamabad and Manoharabad-Kothapalli were few other things which have come for the discussion during this meeting. Srivastava has explained the prominent feature of the zone’s performance on the freight and passenger traffic front and said there was a lot of potential in the Telangana portion of SCR. He reportedly assured KCR that SCR’s thrust would continue to be aimed at meeting rail transportation needs in the new State.
