Junior doctors to continue strike

Hyderabad: The Government of Telangana reiterated that it was not possible to scrap the order which makes one-year rural service mandatory as it was an Act that was passed by the State Assembly.

Telangana State Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr Putta Srinivas, who held talks with the representatives of Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJUDA) on Tuesday, said the norm of one-year rural service would also be applicable to Telangana Medical Graduates and Post Graduates. This would mean that the medical graduates would be eligible to register with the MCI (Medical Council of India) only upon the fulfillment of one-year mandatory rural service.

The Telangana government has also tried to convince the striking junior doctors through “incentives and offers” like hiking their pay on par with that of Civil Assistant Surgeons and providing the Special Protection Force and regularisation of stipend.

But these offers could not cut much ice with the junior doctors. They told the DME that all the incentives were agreed upon by the government way back in 2012.

The junior doctors held an internal meeting after their talks with the DME and resolved to continue their strike. Dr G Srinivas, president of the TJUDA (OGH) told The Hans India that they have no intention of calling off the strike.

Further, junior doctors had warned the government that they would boycott the emergency services at Gandhi Hospital as well, if their demand was not met with. Medical graduates of Osmania hospital have already boycotted both the elective and emergency services.
