Hyderabad: The Telangana State government has come out with new guidelines to determine the eligibility criteria for white ration cards.
Announcing this here on Saturday, Finance and Civil Supplies Minister Etela Rajendra said that the income limit in rural areas for becoming eligible for white ration card has been increased from the existing Rs 65,000 per annum to Rs 1.5 lakh. Similarly, in urban areas the income limit has been hiked to Rs 2 lakh. This would be applicable even in the case of pensioners.
Rajendra said the cabinet sub-committee on ration cards had submitted certain recommendations to the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and they were accepted in toto.
The white ration cards would be issued to eligible persons even if they do not possess Aadhaar cards.
The Minister said that hence forth every poor person in the Telangana state would get 6 kg of rice per month at Rs 1 per kg and there would be no upper limit.
At present, each family gets a maximum of 20 kg rice. But under the new scheme, if there are 10 persons in a family they will be able to draw 60 kg of rice. The government would start issuing food security cards to all eligible families for this purpose from December. The existing ration cards can be used till then.
The Minister further said that households that own not more than 7.5 acres of dry land and 3.5 acres of wet land would also be eligible for food security subsidy.
However, the white cards cannot be used for getting the benefit of ‘Arogya Sri’ scheme. The ration cards shall be valid only for the purpose of drawing rice and other essential commodities. The government would soon issue new cards for the purpose of Arogya Sri, he said.
The new BPL cards will be in pink colour with Telangana State logo, he added.
