Hyderabad: The Telangana government proposes to launch ‘One Stop Crisis Centre’ for women on distress. The One Stop Crisis centre will have a toll-free number 181 and 24x7 help desk early next year.
The One Stop Crisis centre is based on the guidelines the centre had issued asking the states to create Nirbhaya centres. TS government will be first state to create such a centre in the country, a senior official told The Hans India. At a later stage, these centres would be linked to the Central scheme. It is learnt that the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has given his nod for the scheme.
Of late there have been many cases where women have been sent out of their houses and in some cases even pregnant women have been left in lurch. According to official sources women who face problems like domestic violence or rape, can call 181 and the woman police from the help desk will coordinate with the shelter home. If the women are pregnant necessary medical aid will also be provided to her. Generally women who are victims of domestic help or rape do not feel comfortable to approach police station as they would not like to disclose the details in a police station as they fear secondary victimization.
The proposed One Stop Crisis Centre will create a friendly environment said Swathi Lakra city Additional Commissioner (Crimes). The 181 toll free service is being designed on the lines of the system that exists in Gujarat and Mumbai. In Gujarat, woman seek the help of such centre on issues, like domestic violence, harassment, husband wife related issues, information on government schemes etc.
In Mumbai, the One Stop Crisis Centre is operational in hospitals and it helps the woman of domestic violence and rape. In such cases, women police will reach the hospital and record her statements. She does not have to go to different places. The Centre will be single place, where doctors can also examine the victim.
