Khammam: District Collector Dr K Ilambarithi said 2,334 new claims were received from people who evinced interest in casting their votes in the ensuing Graduates Constituency MLC polls.

The Collector disclosed this while responding to a query by Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal during a video-conference on Thursday. Bhanwarlal spoke to Collectors of different districts during the video-conference.

Ilambarithi said under the Electoral Rolls Revision-2015, so far 11,625 claims and objections were received in Khammam district. He pointed out that special camps were conducted on November 16, 23 and 30 for enrollment of voters. He said 9,235 claims were received through Form-6 for enrollment of new voters while 39 applications were received for removal of names. He said 2,359 applications were received for making changes in voter ID cards and 288 claims were received seeking change in polling stations.

The Collector said a godown was constructed at a cost of Rs 30 lakh for storing EVMs. He appealed to the Chief Electoral officer to sanction additional funds for construction of another floor for the godown.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Bhanwarlal said that in view of the MLC elections to Graduates and Teachers constituencies in February 2015, the District Collectors should take up a wide-spread campaign to ensure that the graduates and teachers exercise their franchise during the elections. Those who do not possess voter ID cards should file their applications to secure the cards, he said.

The CEO called upon those who will be completing 18 years of age by January 1, 2015, to file applications for enrolling their names in voters list.

He said a receipt should be provided to those who file their applications for exercising their franchise in Graduates / Teachers constituency MLC polls. Along with the application, the applicants should submit one photograph, he said. Attestation by a gazetted officer was not required.

The CEO urged all the graduates to file their applications on time. Bhanwarlal held a review with the Collectors on the funds utilized during the General Elections conducted in May, 2014.

District Revenue officer J Siva Srinivasulu and Deputy Tahsidar of election wing also took part in the video-conference.
