Demand compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of farmers who committed suicides

Hyderabad: Around ten Left parties on Friday launched a ‘bus yatra’ from the Chief Minister’s constituency Gajwel to force the government to take note of the plight of farmers in the new State.

The bus yatra is also meant to mobilise public support for the proposed dharna at Indira Park in Hyderabad on December 11, according to CPI leader S Vasudeva Reddy. The Left party leaders said the government which had made tall promises before the elections was now delaying implementation of loan waiver scheme which had resulted in farmers committing suicides.

Vasudeva Reddy, M Sammi Reddy of CPI (M) and J Yugandhra of Forward Bloc said it was unfortunate that the government was not even willing to admit that farmers were committing suicide. The Left parties demanded enhanced compensation to the kin of farmers who committed suicide from the existing Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.

The ‘bus yatra’ would cover all the ten districts and mandals in Telangana and would tell people about how the government had failed to keep up its promises.
