Merry Xmas Everybody, Prayers and carols across the city paved way for widespread cheer and festivities as church bells rang at midnight, wishing Merry Christmas to everyone.
Hyderabad: Prayers and carols across the city paved way for widespread cheer and festivities as church bells rang at midnight, wishing Merry Christmas to everyone. The festival was ushered in with a large number of people thronging the churches for special prayers. The festival mood was visible as stars lit up every church and songs of the choir filled the air.
Excited children in resplendent clothes and men and women dressed for the occasion were greeted by their friends and relatives.
The centre of midnight mass was the St Mary’s Basilica at SD Road in Secunderabad, where devout came in large numbers to attend prayers. As a ritual, carol singing started at 10:45 pm. It was interspersed with nativity scenes, which were enacted by children. Archbishop Thumma Bala later started the mass at 11:45 pm.
Exactly at midnight, the celebrations began with the birth of Jesus Christ. After the mass the gathering wished Merry Christmas to everyone.
Giving his message of peace, Fr Balashoury said, “Christmas brings joy for everybody. There have been many disturbances of late. May the Lord restore peace and let there be new and good beginning henceforth.”
