Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has agreed to the request of R Chandrasekhar, president, NASSCOM and BVR Mohan Reddy, vice chairman NASSCOM to host the ‘World Congress on Information Technology’ (WCIT) in Hyderabad in February 2018.

The Chief Minister has been informed by the NASSCOM president that, 2014 conference was held in Mexico and the 2016 conference will be held in Brazil. It was proposed during the 2014 conference that the 2018 conference should be held in India. Accordingly, the president has requested the Chief Minister to host the congress in Hyderabad. The Chief Minister has also been informed that the NASSCOM has a membership of 130 countries out of which from about 80 to 90 countries (3000 to 4000 delegates) would participate in the proposed world conference to be held in Hyderabad in 2018.
The Chief Minister has suggested that a high-level delegation should attend the World Congress to be held at Brazil in 2016 to understand about the modalities and other requirements. He has also suggested to IT Minister K Taraka Rama Rao and IT Principal Secretary Haripreet Singh to work on housing and accommodation as well as logistics for the proposed conference to be hosted at Hyderabad.
In addition, they will also have to follow up discussions with NASSCOM representatives. KCR has also mentioned that by the time the conference is held, the 4G technology would be made available and the Telangana State will have surplus power. Mentioning about the New Industrial Policy, the Chief Minister has said as a very big event, he would like to launch the Industrial Policy to tell everyone that it is no more License Raj and everything will be based on self certification. He also has said that shortly 5,000 acres of land will be earmarked for IT Park where there will be couple of Helipads besides residential facilities, shopping complexes, lawns etc.
