The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Wednesday presented a budget of Rs 5,500 crore for the financial year 2015-16. The main components of GHMC receipts are Property Tax (Rs 1,200 Cr), Surcharge on Stamp Duty (Rs 300 crore), Town Planning Fee (Rs 600 crore) and Professional Tax (Rs 100 Crore). The State government has already allocated Rs 628 crore to the GHMC for schemes like Slum-Free Hyderabad (Rs 250 crore)

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Wednesday presented a budget of Rs 5,500 crore for the financial year 2015-16. The main components of GHMC receipts are Property Tax (Rs 1,200 Cr), Surcharge on Stamp Duty (Rs 300 crore), Town Planning Fee (Rs 600 crore) and Professional Tax (Rs 100 Crore). The State government has already allocated Rs 628 crore to the GHMC for schemes like Slum-Free Hyderabad (Rs 250 crore), MMRTS (Rs 21 crore), Charminar Pedestrian Project (Rs 1 crore) etc., Proposed BPS and LRS is expected to contribute Rs 800 crore to the civic body.
The GHMC is planning to meet its plan with the help of State government, Special Officer Somesh Kumar said. The corporation is also expecting to get Rs 467 crore from Central government under various schemes and programmes. “From Centre, Rs 467 crore is expected under various schemes like 13th and 14th Finance Commission Grants and Swachh Bharat and Sardar Patel Housing Yojana. The draft budget proposal is Rs 5,550 crore with revenue expenditure proposed at Rs 1,732 crore and capital expenditure at Rs 3,8181 crore,” he added.
The revenue expenditure comprises of regular works and GHMC establishment for Rs 700 crore. Health & Sanitation has been given importance and increased to Rs 500 crore. Other major components of revenue expenditure include Street Lighting (Rs 225 crore), City Infrastructure Maintenance (Rs 192 crore), Urban Community Development (Rs 46 crore).
The Capital Expenditure which comprises of new and major infrastructure works is estimated at Rs 3,818 crore. The main components of Capital Expenditure include Road Infrastructure (Rs 1,956 crore), Amenities & Services (Rs 605 crore), Slum Free Hyderabad (Rs 537 crore), Public conveniences (Rs 283 crore), Green Hyderabad (Rs 150 crore), Environment, Heritage, Culture & Tourism (Rs 130 crore) and Smart Hyderabad City (Rs 90 crore).
