Revanth Reddy demands that KCR be booked for encouraging defections

Hyderabad: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is likely to approach the Supreme Court against inclusion of names of TRS MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh and nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson in the voters’ list for the MLC elections under MLA quota to be held on June 1 in Telangana.

Addressing the press here on Saturday, party senior leader A Revanth Reddy said Ramesh was not eligible to vote as per the earlier apex court directions. The TRS MLA was barred from participating in voting for having dual citizenship in India and Germany.

He said the Constitution had also not allowed the nominated MLAs to vote in the Legislative Council election. Taking a serious view of the issue, the party would file a petition in the court, he said. Appealing to all legislators, particularly the TDP MLAs who recently joined ruling TRS, to vote consciously and uphold the democratic spirit, Reddy said cases should be booked against Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for encouraging defections in Opposition parties.

He ridiculed Chandrashekar Rao for preaching democratic values in the recently-held training classes to MLAs and other people representatives. Rao should come clean before delivering lectures on morals and ethics in politics, he lamented.
