Hyderabad: Ahead of bringing new ‘Excise policy -2015 -16,’ Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday directed the Excise and Prohibition department to make available all foreign liquor brands in all star hotels in the state capital in view of increasing visiting of foreign investors and industrialists to the city to set up their business establishments.

Reviewing the proposals made by the Excise department to enforce new excise policy from July 1 in the state, he said after unveiling new industrial policy, the potential investors and top executives of the multi-national companies (MNCs) from abroad were making a beeline to the city to explore business potential in the state.

Since Hyderabad has been promoted as a global hub, it was the government’s responsibility to provide hospitality to all the visitors including making available their favourite foreign ‘spirits’ in the hotels. Referring to the increasing gap between liquor demand and supply, the Chief Minister asked the officials to come out with a proposal to invite more investments to set up liquor manufacturing units- breweries and distilleries in private sector in a big way.

He wanted the whole liquor being consumed by people of the T state should be produced within the state only. Expressing serious concern over the increasing ‘Gudumba’ (illicitly distilled liquor) production and its consumption by people in the villages, KCR said the consumption of ID liquor not only affects the health of the consumers but also reduce the revenues generated from liquor sales.
