The newly constituted committee for Swachh Hyderabad visited the Nagpur Municipal Corporation on a study tour. The team members praised the working pattern of the corporation and the door-to-door garbage collection method which has yielding very good results since Nagpur Municipal Corporation reached the target of 80 per cent lifting of garbage through door-to-door collection.

The team members praised the working pattern of the corporation and the door-to-door garbage collection method which has yielding very good results since Nagpur Municipal Corporation reached the target of 80 per cent lifting of garbage through door-to-door collection.
The members said that they will be submitting a report to the government for implementation of the door-to-door garbage collection and various other civic works in GHMC, on the lines of Nagpur Municipal Corporation. Nagpur Municipal Corporation having an area of 217.56 Sq. kms with a population of 25,05,000 with 5,24,982 households besides 66,020 shops and offices.
The Nagpur civic body is having 10 zones, 145 wards and average waste generation per day is about 1,000 metric tons and it is striving hard to make it a dumper-free city. In the year 2008 the total number of dumper bins were 700 in the entire city, but in 2009 the bins were reduced to 225 and during 2010-2015 total bins have been come down to 170 since garbage collection was done in a systematic and phased manner.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation has taken up complaint redresser through Nagpur Municipal Corporation Face Book page, Citizens of Nagpur can visit this page and complaint if they find garbage uncollected from their home, colony, area or anywhere in city. Moving a step ahead, they also introduced a toll free number to address the complaints of the citizens.
Somesh Kumar, Commissioner & Special Officer, GHMC said that best possible method was implemented by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation and the same will be implemented in GHMC too, in near future, he said. The Swachh Hyderabad Committee consisting of Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Minister for Transport P Mahender Reddy, MPs, K Kesava Rao, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, K Prabhakar Reddy, several MLCs, MLAs and senior officials of GHMC also visited Delhi along with Nagpur.
