TRS will join NDA after GHMC polls: Uttam. The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy predicted that the TRS would join the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre after the GHMC elections.
Comes down heavily on Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for not fulfilling promises made to minorities
Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy predicted that the TRS would join the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre after the GHMC elections.
Uttam Kumar Reddy was speaking while participating in the ceremony of Khaja Fakhruddin taking charge as the chairman of TPCC Minorities Department at Gandhi Bhavan here on Wednesday. The TPCC chief said the TRS had stayed away from the BJP only to get Muslim votes in the forthcoming GHMC elections.
He alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had been cheating the Muslim community since beginning. Although he had promised to give 12 percent reservation to Muslims in jobs and education within four months after coming to power, nothing had been done even after 14 months.
He reminded that Rao had reiterated the promise of Muslim reservation twice last year, but did not implement it. Since Muslims constitute about 40 percent of the total electorate in GHMC, Rao had been making misleading and fake promises to lure them. He demanded that job notifications be issued only giving 12 percent Muslim reservation.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Congress was the true secular party and voting for any party other than Congress would mean voting for BJP. He announced that the Congress would contest the GHMC elections alone and it would not have any tie-up with the MIM. He also announced that the Congress would field strong candidates from all divisions, including those in the Old City.
Leaders of Opposition K Jana Reddy (Assembly) and Mohammed Ali Shabbir (Council), Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao, TPCC Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, MLC Farooq Hussain, Md Sirajuddin, Abdul Ghani and other leaders also addressed the meeting.
