88 children rescued. As many as 88 children were rescued by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) in a joint operation with Balala Hakkula Sangham (BHS) at Secunderabad Railway Station early on Sunday morning.

Hyderabad: As many as 88 children were rescued by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) in a joint operation with Balala Hakkula Sangham (BHS) at Secunderabad Railway Station early on Sunday morning. The children were reportedly being brought into the city for employment in different industries by agents.

Acting on a tip off, the Gopalapuram police under the supervision of DCP (North) N Prakash Reddy along with volunteers of BHS, GRP and RPF personnel checked the Janmabhoomi Express that arrived at Secunderabad Railway Station from Visakhapatnam around 1 am on Sunday and found 88 children travelling in two compartments.

“Around 34 children were below 14 years and rest was in the age group between 15 and 18 years,” BHS president Anuradha Rao said. Ten agents were also rounded up along with the children. The rescued children belotttng to Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha. They were later shifted to children’s homes in Hyderabad.

“We are recording the statements of the children,” said the DCP, who is taking up investigation. A case under Sections 374 (Unlawful Compulsory Labour) and 370 (Buying or Disposing of Any Person as a Slave) of the IPC and relevant sections of JJ Act has been registered.
