Karimnagar: Telangana TDLP floor leader Yerrabelli Dayakar Rao threatened to stall the proceedings of the Assembly till the State government takes back its decision to withdraw from the construction of Thotapalli reservoir. Demanding an all-party meeting, TDP leader wanted the government to organise a public hearing to collect public opinion on the project.

Dayakar Rao along with party president L Ramana, vice-president E Peddireddy and district president Ch Vijayaramana Rao on Sunday visited Thotapalli reservoir site. Speaking on the occasion, the TDLP leader found fault with the government for its decision to cancel the project.

Farmers had sacrificed their lands for a noble cause of providing water to agricultural lands. With their inspiration, TDP would fight with the government to achieve the project. There was no question of going back on the issue, he made it clear.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his nephew and Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao were trying to divert the water to the Chief Minister’s farmhouse by changing the design of Pranahita-Chevella lift irrigation project.

Earlier, Dayakar Rao spoke to media persons in Karimnagar town and informed that Telangana State was in the second position in farmers’ suicides in the country and Medak district was in the first position in the State. But the government failed to submit drought affected report to the Union government.

Though both the Chief Minister and Irrigation Minister were representing Medak, they failed to bring the drought issue to the notice of the Union government. The Central government has not sanctioned drought relief to the State as the Telangana government did not submit the report. TDP on behalf of the farmers would fight with the State and Union governments and get drought relief fund.
