Hyderabad: The Telangana State government on Wednesday celebrated well-known poet Kaloji Narayana Rao’s 101st birth anniversary as Telangana Language Day on a grand scale. Paying tributes to Kaloji, who is also known as Praja Kavi (People's Poet), at the official function held at Ravindra Bharathi, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari said Kaloji's speeches and poetry awakened the people of Telangana and motivated them to launch separate State movement.
Thanking Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for announcing Telangana Language Day on the birth anniversary of Kaloji, Kadiyam recalled that Kaloji was a courageous person and relentlessly fought for the welfare of the people. "He considered people’s problems as his own and fought with the governments for a lasting solution," opined Kadiyam.
The Deputy CM also recalled Kaloji’s assertion that Telangana was not a slang but a language to the society. "His book ‘Naa Godava' (My Fight) was the reflection of people’s problems," he said while informing that State government has released funds for construction of Kaloji Bhavan at Warangal.
On the occasion, Kadiyam conferred Kaloji Award on well-known writer Ammangi Venugopal in the presence of Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy, Finance Minister Eatala Rajender, Chairman Rasamayi Balkishan, Telangana Government advisor K V Ramana Chary and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Naini said Kaloji was a great person who ignited people’s movements by participating in them actively. Kaloji’s name would be remembered for ever, he added. Meanwhile, Eatala opined that Kaloji tried his best to inculcate Telangana struggle through his works. "It is great to celebrate his birth anniversary as Telangana Language Day," he added.
