TS mid-day meal scheme a model for other States: Eatala . Civil Supplies Minister Eatala Rajender on Wednesday said the mid-day meal scheme in schools and meal format in residential schools and hostels in Telangana became a model for other states to replicate the system.
Hyderabad: Civil Supplies Minister Eatala Rajender on Wednesday said the mid-day meal scheme in schools and meal format in residential schools and hostels in Telangana became a model for other states to replicate the system. Replying to questions in the Legislative Assembly, he said that the impact of the mid-day meal scheme motivated students to study and excel in the academics.
- For the first time, the government has decided to do away with restriction on quantity of food being supplied to pupils
- Superfine rice is being supplied to hostels to provide complete nutritious food to students
“Though Telangana is the youngest State in India, it is drawing attention by supplying super fine rice to ensure complete nutritious food to the students,” the Minister said. He said the government was supplying fine rice under the scheme though the price of which was higher. “Our government and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao feel that it is not ideal to limit the quantity of food for children to 125, 175 or 400 grams of rice, considering their nutritional needs at the growing age.
It would be unfair on our part to restrict their intake and no matter how many thousands of crores of rupees the scheme needs,” said Rajender. He further said the government was determined to run the scheme in the best manner possible. The Civil Supplies Minister stated that Rs 2,200 crore was allocated in the budget under subsidy-on-rice scheme for the welfare of students in schools and hostels.
He further said that as of now, as many as 71,729 tonnes (32,299 for hostels and 39,430 tonnes for schools) of super fine rice was supplied to 3,036 hostels and 34,319 schools with 5.39 lakh and 29.86 lakh students, respectively. Rajender also said that when fine rice was not available in the State, they were getting the same from other States also.
