Karthika Pournami, the auspicious festival of lights, was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across Nalgonda and Khammam districts on Wednesday. The temples witnessed heavy rush of devotees, who came to perform special poojas and lit the lamps since early morning.

Sri Lakshminarsimha Swamy temple at Yadagirigutta teemed with devotees as they arrived in the temple to perform Satyanarayana Swamy Vratham on the auspicious day. Keeping in mind the heavy rush, arrangements were also made at Sangeetha Bhavan for performing Satyanarayana Swamy vrathams in addition to the main hall. The temple authorities have made special arrangements to provide drinking water to the devotees. The women devotees lit the lamps in the temple premises on the occasion.

Special poojas and rituals including Rudrabhishekam were performed at Chaya Someshwaralayam at Panagal. Large number of devotees formed serpentine queues from the early morning to have the darshan of Lord Shiva.

Jadala Ramalingeshwara Swamy temple at Cheruvugatta village in Narketpally mandal also attracted thousands of number of devotees on the auspicious day. The people took a holy dip in the temple tank on the hill shrine and formed queues to have darshan of the main deity. In Khammam, many devotees from the early hours thronged Bhadrachalam town on Wednesday, to take a holy dip in River Godavari seeking blessings for good health.

The famous Shiva temples in Nelakondapalli, Madira, Chandrugonda, Penub­alli, Kusumanchi and other mandals in the district were overcrowded with devotees setting afloat clay lamps in the water. Many temples in Bhadrachalam, Sri Seetharamachandra Swamy, Shivalayam, Anjaneya Swamy, Subramanyeshwara Swamy temples witnessed heavy devotee rush.
