HMWSSB prepares calamity action plan, seeks 134.30 cr

Hyderabad: With the drying up of Osmansagar, Himayathsagar and Singur reservoirs, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMW­SSB) has come out with a calamity action plan.

The financial assistance required to meet the crisis is Rs 134.30 crore, which the Water Board has requested the government to provide it.

The Water Board provides drinking water of 365 MGD to the entire area of GHMC, including certain villages and four municipalities.

The supply meets the requirement of all State and Central government institutions including Defence establishments, Secunderabad Cantonment Board etc. and industries like BHEL, ECIL, HCL etc.

Anticipating a severe water crisis starting from December till the next monsoon, the calamity relief plan has been prepared. The money required for emergency pumping, divert stagnated water from ponds, procurement of chemicals like polyaluminium chloride, non-ferric alum and activated carbon to overcome the water quality issues while drawing the water from dead storage and arrangements for diverting Krishna water to Osmansagar system is 0.85 crore.

Emergency pumping arrangements including electrical pumping installations, formation of earthern bund, channelising for Godavari system, erecting platform for secondary pumping arrangements including necessary equipment for Manjeera system and other systems require funds, said an official.

Providing generators at pumping stations to ensure continuous pumping during load shedding operation/power breakdowns and transportation of water through tankers to the served areas, repairs to hand pumps and converting hand pump bore wells to power bore wells entails additional money, said officials.
