The Vana Vignana Kendra (zoo) here on Saturday celebrated its 31st foundation day. As part of it, the forest officials organised an awareness programme on conservation of snakes. The members of Friends of Snake Society explained the significance of biodiversity conservation. They also tried to allay fears of snakes and understand the world of reptiles.

​Warangal: The Vana Vignana Kendra (zoo) here on Saturday celebrated its 31st foundation day. As part of it, the forest officials organised an awareness programme on conservation of snakes. The members of Friends of Snake Society explained the significance of biodiversity conservation. They also tried to allay fears of snakes and understand the world of reptiles.

Later, the Greater Warangal Municipal Commissioner Sarfraz Ahmed distributed prizes to schoolchildren, who excelled in essay writing, drawing, speech and slogan competitions organised by the forest department. On the occasion, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Sunil Kumar Gupta inaugurated the enclosure of Rhea, the South American bird, the latest additions to the zoo park.

A workshop on ‘The Role of Zoo in Wildlife Conservation’ was also organised in which the DFO (wildlife) K Purushotham and FRO P Punnamchander took part. On the occasion, zoo park veterinary doctor Praveen Kumar, Prof. Ratan Singh, Vallampatla Nageshwar Rao, Shankar, Sadanandam, Krishna and Mallaiah were felicitated by the forest officials for their role in bringing about awareness among the people about the importance of wildlife conservation.
