Nizamabad: With Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao declaring on the floor of the State Legislative Assembly to reserve 33 per cent of Market Committee chairpersons’ posts to women, five market committees are going to be headed by women as there are 17 market committees in the district.
As a result, several second rung leaders who aspired for the chairman’s posts of market committees were shocked with the government’s decision.
Minister for Marketing T Harish Rao piloted the Market Committees Amendment Bill in the State Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. The government seeks to achieve social justice while filling up the posts of the market committee chairmen.
There are 17 market committees in the district including the newly formed committees. If the rule of 33 per cent quota was to be implemented, five chairperson posts will go to women.
Earlier, no quota system was followed while appointing a governing body to a market committee. But recently, the State government decided to implement the quota system to fill the chairman posts. It finalized reservations for various market committees.
Accordingly, 11 market committees have been reserved for OCs, five for BCs and one for SCs. In fact, the 33 per cent quota for women will help the government nominate chairpersons in tune with the above reservations.
The district has market committees at Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Bodhan, Armoor, Banswada, Yella Reddy, Bhikkanuru, Gandhari, Pitlam, Warni, Kotagiri, Kammarpalli, Bichkunda, Velpur, Madnur, Beerukuru and Sadashivanagar.
The Nizamabad market was billed as the second biggest market in the State conducting business transactions from here to various parts of the country. The competition is very stiff for the Nizamabad Market Committee chairman’s post.
