Mahbubnagar: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Tuesday warned the officials of serious actions if they adopted lackadaisical attitude to executing works of irrigation project in Mahbubnagar district. Stating that the State government was determined to provide water for irrigation to over 4.5 lakh acres during this kharif by July-end, the Minister directed the officials to work with dedication and commitment to ensure the targets are met.

The State government had taken a decision to ensure that at least 4 lakh acres of agriculture land gets water for water during this Kharif season. Accordingly, the Irrigation Minister directed the officials concerned to ensure supply of water to 1.4 lakh acres under Nettampad, 1.5 lakh acres under Kalwakurthy and 1.5 lakh acres under Bheema lift irrigation projects by the end of next month.

While reviewing the various pending works of irrigation projects in the district, the Minister referred to pending works of package of 99 and Rehabilitation (R&R) works under Nettampad lift irrigation project and directed the Joint Collector Ram Kishan to see that the land acquisition and other pending issues are resolved as early as possible and the works begin immediately.

Similarly under Bheema Lift Irrigation project, the Minister ordered the Irrigation engineers to carry out de-silting of canals under lift -1 and lift-2 and ensure that water reaches to the last ayacut. Harish Rao said the State government had so far released Rs. 1,600 crore to complete the Kalwakurthy lift irrigation project. However, till date only 60 per cent works were completed.

For taking up the Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation project (PRRLI), the government had so far spent Rs 900 crore. “When we take up gigantic projects like PRRLI, hurdles and problems are always there. The officials must understand this and should come out with a solution by taking the farmers into confidence,” he said.

The minister appreciated the unity among the ministers and MLAs, who all have formed a team and continuously supervising the works of irrigation projects in the district. “Our aim is to provide water to maximum extent of land in Mahbubnagar. We are overcoming all the complexities and problems in the land acquisition act and resolving the issues on priority.

All required land for the projects will be acquired from the farmers with their consent. The Ministers and MLAs in the district are working as a team and inspecting the works continuously to ensure they are completed on time,” added the Irrigation minister.
