​Nizamabad: District Collector Yogita Rana on Tuesday urged Minister for Forests Jogu Ramanna for funds to procure tree guards to protect the saplings planted as part of avenue plantation on either side of panahchayat raj and Roads & Buildings roads under the MGNREGS material component to prevent goats savouring on them.

Responding to the video conference addressed by the Minister from Hyderabad, she said that so far, 47 lakh saplings were planted in the district. She told the Minister that 1.98 lakh saplings would be planted on either side of the 128-km-long national highways in the district. To implement the programme successfully from the grassroots level, each mandal has been divided into two clusters. She sought 15 lakh teak plants and 11 lakh horticultural plants additionally.

The Minister directed the District Collectors to involve the people’s representatives and various committees functioning at the grassroots level in the Harita Haram programme. Chief Secretary Rajeev Sarma directed the District Collectors to implement the Harita Haram programme in municipalities on a large scale on July 18.

He advised the districts to keep ready 20 lakh pits daily to meet the plantation drive objectives. District Superintendent of Police Vishwa Prasad, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests SK Gupta, Joint Collector A Ravinder Reddy and others were present at the video conference.
